Promote the exchange of ideas, international cooperation and collaboration between researchers and those involved in the cherry industry in the world, are the main challenges of the VII International Symposium Cherry, which will be held in Plasencia (Spain) from 23 to 27 June 2013.
The Picota del Jerte is a superior quality variety of cherry. Grown in the Jerte Valley it is so unique that it boasts its own Protected Designation of Origin. It is smaller, crunchier, sweeter and more flavoursome than other varieties of cherry and, what is more, is sold stalkless as the stalk stays on the tree naturally when the fruit is picked.
This is the identity tag you will find on the boxes of cherries that carry the Protected Designation of Origin.
Quality controls are very strict and are carried out in the field during harvesting, at the foot of the trees themselves to ensure that cherries are genuinely from the Jerte Valley. Reject imitations.
